Second to last. That's where they had placed in the BC Filly and Mare Turf. Nick had been livid and not because he had to buy Amber dinner.
They had done so much prep and still they had been bested by almost an entire field....it just didn't make any sense.
He rode the bay mare at a light canter...he was trying not to channel his frustration to the sweet mare, but she had picked up already on his mood and was trying her hardest to listen to Nick. The mare had heart and came from amazing turf lines...if it was the last thing Nick did Allure would be G1 by the end of this year..because this year would be her last.
There was a lot of work cut out for them, but he knew that this FS Waylay Attack daughter still had a lot in her and they would show them all.
Nick felt the filly, she was eager to prove herself today...a good thing. She still had drive. Nick clucked to the mare and asked her to enter her gallop.
Instantly she responded and threw herself forward into the wind. The turf below was like a green carpet flying by in a haze... Troubles..worries...and frustrations fell from the back of Nick's mind as he simply lost himself in the feeling of flying.
As they progressed around the track, true to her style, she continually upped her pace..it was like having a car set on automatic pilot. She knew her job, knew what to do and was more than capable of succeeding...
Nick smiled as they passed their fourth fifth furlong and gradually began to slow Allure down. She fought the bit initially, but then conceded to Nick's commands....
Yes she still had a lot of heart and she would take this year by storm....starting with the Top Notch Stakes.
